It's fairly cool. We had a big rain storm yesterday, it seems that the clouds build up in a hurry and rains real hard for about an hour then it all goes away. I got all my home teaching done for this month. They are going to baptize a Vietnamese woman today. Well, it's time for me to go eat dinner, I will have the usual hamburger.

It's a good thing that I tell ya'll everything that really goes on around here, or ya'll would really worry. As for me, I worry ever once in awhile, but I'm use to it now. I went out to the firing range today. The M-16 I rebuilt fired perfect. I shot over a 1,000 rounds through it, and not one jammed or missed fired. That M-16 can get pretty hot. As long as you've got good clips, the gun will fire perfect.

We have nine home teachers. We try to work in pairs. Right now, I'm short one home teacher. I think we got all our home teaching done for the month. My new home teaching companion is a guy named Lewis, he is form Idaho.

We got 100% home teaching for this month. They baptized a Vietnamese woman Sunday. She was at church, and bore her testimony for us. She's the first member in this area. She is going to have a hard time. I guess she's around 25 and very smart. I lost that watch of mine last night. I laid it down and forgot where I put it (I did find it later on top of my locker, however, I lost it later while I was stationed at Goodfellow).

Major Smith forgot to put my name in the orders, so I didn't go to Cam Rhan Bay as I was supposed to. We had about twenty new guys come in today. They call them Jeeps. I'm an old timer now. We got 100% home teaching. I'm still the supervisor. last month we only got 50%, so we really improved.
2 July 1971
One of my mamasons Ben had a little girl about a month ago. She was really old looking.
3 July 1971
I didn't get to go to Cam Rhan Bay.
6 July 1971
Today was my day off, and it rained all day. Saturday night David Hartun got mugged by 6 soul brothers. David got a 4 inch gash in his head, and took eleven stitches to sew him up. If we can find the guys who done it, they will really be in for it. We plan to tear gas them, and they come out of the hootch, they will be worked over. There is a lot of racial attention here now.

We got a new boss, TSgt Dalton, he seems like a pretty good guy, my old boss is leaving. We also got a new guy name Woods. They are going to start a rifle and pistol team. I've got to rebuild 6 M-16s for the people in it. I'm going to build two a day. I could do it all at once, buy why hurry. I've got to put new barrels, upper receiver and as many new parts as I can put in them. I've really got lazy here lately. I'm getting tired ever since I got here, all I've done is work, and it's catching up with me.
10 July 1971
I rebuilt 4 M-16 today. It takes about 1 1/2 hours to do one. Our new boss has some new ideas on he wants the armory run, so we will be busy the rest of the time I'm here. I went out last Wednesday to do my home teaching but I didn't catch anyone home. We came out with 90% last time on home teaching.
13 July 1971
I rebuilt 6 M-16s and three 12 gauge shotguns. We went out to the range and test fired them. They worked perfect. I have learned a few things since I've been here. That typhoon that hit, well we got most of it, and it's still raining. We had winds up to 100 mph. Texas isn't getting some of this rain (too bad). I wasn't all that disappointed in not getting to go to Cam Rhan. I don't like to travel, and I've always said that the only time I would leave this place was to go home. I have nightmares dreaming I have to come back. Those mamasons are fairly old, one, Dun, is 38 and Ben is 42.
